Interview: Aly & Fila at ASOT650 at The Jaarbeurs, Utrecht. The biggest trance event of the year was organised in Utrecht on Saturday 15th of February. The superstar 5 times number 1 DJ, influential producer and succcessful label owner Armin van Buuren celebrated the 650 episode of his worldwide known radio show ASOT with an exceptional event as part of his worldwide tour under the motto "New Horizons". The event took place at the famous conference center The Jaarbeurs and included 4 stages with more than 40 DJ's who came from around the world especially for this night. The Main stage included sets by Audien, Cosmic Gate, Armin van Buuren, Dash Berlin, Jorn van den Hoyven, New World Punx, Andrew Rayel and the top duo Aly & Fila and John O Callaghan. The other 3 areas were ASOT Invites, Who’s Afraid of 138?! and New Horizons.
The last DJ set on The Main stage was handled perfectly by the Egyptian heros of trance, Aly & Fila and the Irish trance master John O' Callaghan. Their set was unbelievable as both really did their best to entertain the packed crowd with their latest new and forthcoming tracks mixed with many classics. It was 100% sure that you could not stand still even for a minute. Powerful uplifting dynamic euphoric trance for those who are not afraid the tougher harder trance style with instrumental and vocal choices that the trance fans seems to love until the very last track at 07.00 when the event finished. We catch up with Fady from Aly & Fila for an interview about their performance at ASOT and their futute releases schedule that seems to be extremely busy with nice goodies for the trance family worldwide.
Dimitri: What is your opinion of the big achievement of Armin van Buuren in reaching 650 episodes of his radio show, and what is most important issue managing to a sold out event in such a huge venue?
Aly & Fila: It is an incredible achievement; the dedication that Armin and his team have given to the radio Show and A State of Trance brand is outstanding. We are very proud to be the only DJs apart from Armin and Markus Schulz to play every celebration since ASOT 300 in 2007. Armin has heavily supported our music on A State of Trance radio show for many years and we are very grateful and thankful for that. We thoroughly love playing the celebration every year and to sell out the events like it does, it a testament to Armin, A State of Trance, the team around the brands and also to Trance. Trance is as strong as ever.
Dimitri: How was your DJ set at ASOT650 Utrecht? Did you have a great time?
Aly & Fila: It was made extra special because we played a back to back set with John O'Callaghan, and we also closed the main stage, which is something that we really wanted to do. The venue being the former home of Trance Energy also made it that extra special. We never had the chance to play the main stage at Trance Energy when it was held there. A State of Trance did an amazing job there, what a party, we loved it to so much! Thanks to Armin and his team for inviting us to play there.
Dimitri: Which track in your set got the best reaction from the crowd and is there a moment that you maybe will never forget from ASOT650 Utrecht?
Aly & Fila: I think our new remix of Luke Bond’s “On Fire” featuring Roxanne Emery was a special moment for us and it had a great reaction. The whole set was a great experience.
Dimitri: You have your radio show called Future Sound of Egypt. Can you tell us more about it and what are your plans are for it in the future? Are you inspired by Armin’s radio show?
Aly & Fila: The show is hosted weekly on many FM Stations around the world. In the summer of 2014, we will celebrate the 350th episode of the radio show with several parties around the world to celebrate this. Anyone who is in this industry can and should draw inspiration from Armin's Radio Show. It is a great example of dedication and professionalism to the brands and the genre of music that we all love
Dimitri: ASOT Utrecht managed to bring people together from all around the globe and more than 35,000 trance lovers. Do you believe that this is a sign that trance music is definitely back for good?
Aly & Fila: It never went away, but for us we play every week worldwide and can see the sound has always been there and the fans, Trance will never disappear as a genre of dance music, there is too much talent and love and emotion that goes with the sound
Dimitri: Can you outline in some phrases your future releases and activities related to your career as as a DJ & producer?
Aly & Fila: “The Other Shore” will be our next artist album release this summer. We have several single releases from the album also, our remix album of “Quiet Storm” will be released very soon and also a surprise compilation.
