Amsterdam Dance Event represents the latest developments, reflects and evaluates them on the various panels and discussions and what is most important, through the alliances and coalitions that are shaped during the intense networking these five days, ADE has a decisive impact and huge influence on the future of Electronic Music Industry and Electronic Music Culture as a whole. ADE has developed from being at the beginning just an industry meeting to become an actual symbol of the growing importance and huge impact of Electronic Music in the recording industry business and the youth culture as a whole. The attendance at ADE itself or the sold out festivals like Tomorrowland or Mysteryland or Sensation all over the world prove that the Electronic Music industry is one of the most vital and quickly growing sectors which will shape the younger generation perceptions, attitudes and music tastes. If some years ago Electronic Music was a subculture in the periphery of the system, now it has become the mainstream without the negative connotations from the past. These considerable changes were reported by more than 400 journalists from around the world who have attended this year's event.
One of the first panels that started off ADE first day on Wednesday 15th of October was about the Future of Electronic Music Journalism in the Netherlands. The panel was targeted mainly at national journalists and was Dutch language, so I requested an interview from two great music journalists to offer me some of their valuable time and conduct an interview where they talked about the main themes of that panel. As you will understand by watching this interview their opinions about Music Journalism in the Netherlands represents what happens in Music Journalism in other countries such as UK for instance, as the trends are mainly global with small variations locally from country to country.
I interviewed Perre van der Brink (VICE, NL), Head of Content / Creative Director VICE, i-D, Noisey, Motherboard & THUMP and the Moderator of the panel Saul van Stapele, Music Journalist (NL). If you are interested in the issues regarding if there is a future on music journalism as a paid profession and if music publications will abandoned the print medium forever in favour of the digital publications then you should watch this interview which contains strong and to the point opinions and is a must watch for sure.
